"I could have been a Rhodes Scholar, except for my grades." - former Michigan State football coach, Duffy Daugherty
Jim O’Meara is a 1963 graduate of S.U.N.Y. at Brockport, N.Y. with a dual major in health and physical education. He taught 40 years
as a physical education teacher and coach. The last 26 years of his teaching career were spent teaching adapted physical education to physically and mentally challenged students in the San Diego Unified Schools. Though Jim had trained many people throughout his career as a teacher and coach, he became certified as a personal trainer in December, 2001 through Exercise Science Alliance. His specialties are in alternatives to traditional strength conditioning, specifically Total Gym®/Gravity and Bodyblade®.He has taught Total Gym® training since December, 1978 and is certified through the American Council on Exercise in Gravity™ as a group strength instructor and personal trainer.
Jim had been a proponent and personal practitioner of Active Isolated Stretching since May, 2002, and became certified as a teacher of self-stretching of AIS and also hands on assisted stretching in this method. He had taught a class in Active Isolated
self-stretching three times weekly at The Wavehouse Athletic Club in San Diego since spring 2004.
In spring of 2008, Jim began mentoring under Nic Bartolotta, a certified holistic health practitioner and soon-to-be physical therapist, and the originator of Ecentric Strength. The Ecentric Strength method of strengthening and stretching is now Jim’s protocol of choice with clients, as he continues his study with Nic Bartolotta. The aforementioned class at The Wavehouse Athletic Club is now exclusively presented in the Ecentric Strength format. Jim plans to bring his Ecentric Strength knowledge to multiple facilities in the San Diego area, including introducing the self-strengthening/stretching techniques of ECS into school physical education and athletic programs. His clients and students have ranged in age from ten to ninety. Jim practices what he preaches, cross training himself daily, alternating swim and deep water running days with his aforementioned specialties, and self-strengthening/stretching daily.
